Skyrmions tracked in a Kerr effect microscope

This video, recorded at CMRR laboratory in San Diego University, comes from a Kerr effect microscope and shows the motion of skyrmions.

The analysis difficulties are due to the weak contrast of the particles with respect to the background and to the high noise level.
However the major difficulty comes from the tracking of about 900 particles with sudden accelerations.

TRACK tools such as filtering and tracking methods give information on the displacement of each particle leading to a statistical approach as well as an individual description. Despite the number of particles, tracking is achieved at the speed you visualize the video (around 30 fps).
